    Stop Unscientific Attacks on Kratom

AMERICAN KRATOM ASSOCIATION URGES LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO STOP UNSCIENTIFIC ATTACKS ON KRATOM

Action Spurred by Spate of Unfounded Warnings in GA, VA, AL, CO and UT; “Reefer Madness”-Style Fear Campaign Linked to 2016 DEA Briefings, New Infographic Sets the Record Straight.

WASHINGTON, D.C.  March 16, 2017  Even though the case for banning or scheduling kratom has been debunked, there continue to be a number of unwarranted warnings about the coffee-like botanical coming from city, county and state agencies across the United States.  In calling for a halt to these unscientific attacks on kratom, the American Kratom Association today issued a new fact-versus-fiction.  Download HERE.

The local and state warnings appear to be an outgrowth of the one or more briefings conducted last fall by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) with police and health officials across the United States. The AKA has learned of the DEA briefing or briefings, which were held before the point in time when the federal agency put on hold its plan to schedule kratom as an illegal drug.

REVIEW OF DEA KRATOM PUBLIC COMMENTS

REVIEW OF DEA KRATOM PUBLIC COMMENTS SHOWS STRONG SUPPORT AMONG VETS, DOCTORS, COPS AND SENIORS FOR COFFEE-LIKE HERB

99.1% of 23,116 Comment Filers Supported Kratom and Opposed DEA Ban; Vets Seen as 18% of Filers Mentioning Profession, While Seniors Accounted for 21% Where Age Mentioned.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (February 2, 2017) – When the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) asked for public comments late last year about its plan to impose what amounted to a ban on the coffee-like herb kratom, they may not have been prepared for both the volume of comments (23,116) and the overwhelming opposition to a ban (99.1 percent).  A new analysis by the American Kratom Association (AKA) and American Coalition of Free Citizens (ACFC) reviewed every one of the comments submitted to the DEA prior to the conclusion of its public comment period on December 1, 2016.

    25,000-SIGNATURE GOAL FOR TRUMP PETITION

25,000-SIGNATURE GOAL SET FOR PETITION ASKING PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP TO STOP DEA’S WAR ON KRATOM

January 22nd Deadline Looms: 8,000 Speak Up at www.PetitionTrumpForKratom.Org in 1st 2 Weeks to Stop “Regulatory Overkill” on Coffee-Like Herb No Worse Than Nutmeg.

WASHINGTON, D.C.   January 4, 2017  Less than three weeks remain for supporters of kratom to sign the petition at www.PetitionTrumpForKratom.com urging President-elect Donald Trump to either halt the DEA/FDA push to criminalize kratom or to reverse any 11th hour ban that might be imposed in the waning days of the Obama Administration. A target of 25,000 signatures was announced today by the American Kratom Association (AKA), which launched the online petition on Monday, December 19th.

In the first two weeks since its launch of December 19th, the PetitionTrumpforKratom.org Web site has attracted nearly 8,000 petition signers. In late November, AKA released a report by one of the world’s leading addiction experts who concluded that kratom has as low or even lower potential for abuse and dependence as nutmeg and St. John’s Wort.

    Commenting Tips Continued

    General commenting tips :

    a) BE SURE YOU SAVE A COPY OF YOUR COMMENT IN A DOCUMENT BEFORE YOU TRY TO SUBMIT – Things go wrong on the internet all the time and you’ll want to have that backup copy in case something crashes while you’re trying to submit.

    b) In your first sentence, give your age and occupation or any credentials you have. The first sentence will be the onepeople see at they are scrolling through the comments.

    c) Learn about the Federal Register and what it is

    d) Be polite and professional - remember you are giving testimony to a government agency. Read about how to write a business letter here : http://bit.ly/1e0CJTA (after the salutation section for the purpose of these comments. No address is needed.)

    e) Be honest and speak from your own personal experience

    f) When citing facts in any type of formal writing, it is important to include a reference to where you got the facts. Learn more about that here: http://bit.ly/2e68rtG

    g) Take your time and work on your grammar and wording. Some people around the Facebook and Reddit groups have offered to help with grammar and spelling. There is also a free site called [Grammarly](search google for it) . You have to sign up, but it helps a lot with grammar and spelling! 5a. Also, for finding the right word, https://www.powerthesaurus.org/ is a great help!

    h) Spread the word! Ask your family and friends to write comments to the DEA regarding the impact of kratom on your life from their view. If they have any opinion on kratom's scheduling, they can say so. Anyone can write a comment, not only consumers. The comments can be as simple as a single sentence stating their position on the issue.

TIP FOR MULTIPLE COMMENTS ON THE SAME COMPUTER BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE (Only 1 comment per person, please! Multiple from the same person can be detrimental to our cause):
If you have multiple people commenting on the same computer, and you are using Chrome browser, press CTRL+SHIFT+N to open an "incognito window". This will clear out any previous information from your comment so that they can make one in their name. This is only necessary when using kratomcomments.org site.

    DONATE to the AKA
The AKA relies on donations and memberships to fund their costly efforts in the kratom fight. Please donate HERE.  For questions about donations, contact Angela Ross angela.ross@americankratom.org
